PATTERNED CONCRETE® WINS FIRST PLACE IN VEGAS
Patterned Concrete® Wins First Place in Vegas
Las Vegas, Nevada, USA (January 24, 2018) – Patterned Concrete® Ontario of Toronto, Canada came out a really big winner at the Decorative Concrete Council’s World of Concrete celebration event in Las Vegas this year. It was the Council’s 10th Annual Awards ceremony, an exclusive event dedicated to recognizing and honoring outstanding concrete projects from all over the world. Winning one of this Council’s prestigious awards is understandably considered a major accomplishment.
Patterned Concrete® Ontario won not one but three Decorative Concrete Council awards.
Based on originality, function and form, architectural aptitude, engineering expertise, technical innovation, application of material, and maintainability, 1st Place was awarded to our Lock 8 Skate & BMX Park in Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada in the “Architectural Cast-In-Place Concrete Structures over 5000 square feet” category. Constructed entirely from concrete, this unique structure incorporates some exceptionally sophisticated and colourful features. In fact, the project was reported to be one of the most unique and colourful skate parks the esteemed panel of judges had seen.
Encompassing over 11,000 square feet of concrete components, the Lock 8 Skate & BMX Park structure includes 6,500 square feet of park ramps as high as 8 feet, back falling ramps or overts, coloured ramps, and nearly 5,400 square feet of shotcrete elements spanning prow to stern. Located beside the Welland Canal at Lock 8, the park was inspired by the ships that pass through the waterway daily between the Great Lakes, Erie and Ontario. But the story doesn’t end there…
Not only did our Skate & BMX Park take 1st Place in its category, it also won 2nd Place for “Concrete Artistry over 5000 square feet”… and another of our projects, the Pan Am Aquatic Parkette in Toronto Ontario’s Centennial Park, won 2nd Place for “Concrete Artistry under 5000 square feet”.
Accepting for Patterned Concrete® Ontario, President Joe Guida expressed his heartfelt thanks and great pride in the teams working on each of the company’s three winning projects. In attendance with Mr. Guida at the Awards banquet were Frank Galati, Director of Business Development for Patterned Concrete® Ontario and Sandy Guida, President of Tri-Con Concrete Finishing Company, the finishing contractor on the job. Not in attendance were architect of record LANDinc, engineer of record Blackwell Structural Engineers, and material supplier Dufferin Concrete, a division of Holcim (Canada) Inc.
